Historical Research

Genealogy Research

• Research of birth, marriage, and death records; tax records; deeds; court cases; etc.; at the Pittsylvania County Courthouse (see also a more complete listing of Pittsylvania County Courthouse resources);
• Research at the Pittsylvania County Public Library (see also a listing of library resources);
• Research of my own private library and files.

Property Research

• Research of the deeds and tax records for a property (often one can determine or approximate dates of construction and improvements);
• Research in local history publications for information about historic properties;
• Information on construction style (see our local articles and general on-line references).

Rates

• The rate is $20 per hour, plus copying costs (usually runs 50 cents a copy) and shipping/handling costs.
• Research at the Averett University Library, the Virginia-North Carolina Piedmont Genealogical Society, the Danville Courthouse, and at the Danville Public Library (all located in Danville, Virginia) involve two additional hours for travel time and auto mileage compensation.
• Contact me for rates for research at other libraries in Virginia and North Carolina, such as the Alderman Library at the University of Virginia.
